The Fridge Restocking Fairy

July 16th, 2008

So if you’re special enough to know about my personal life, you’d know that currently my brother is living away from home at the moment. He’s living in Berkeley, at my aunt and uncle’s house, while he’s interning at the Disability Rights Education & Defense Fund.  Which is interesting to him, because he’s legally blind. Yes, my brother got his awesomeness from me, he’s starting his second year of law school in August as well as hopefully interning with the Sacramento District Attorney’s Office. Well, the point in all my rambling is that while he’s living away from home, my mother still purchases food and stuff for him, he’s quite a picky eater and I guess she feels bad lol. So every now and then when I visit I bring along food and snacks for him. It’s 5 a.m. now and I’ve just arrived in Berkeley and restocked their fridge full of food. Not just for him but for everyone. So that got me thinking about my family.

Everyone knows I’m very close to my family. My father’s side mostly, because my mother’s family lives in the Philippines still, or in Southern California. So basically far away. My dad’s family- my grandmother, my aunts and uncle live in the Bay Area. My 2 aunts, uncle and cousin actually live in the same group of townhouses that my grandmother lives in, which she’s lived in since 1979. So this is where my family congregates most weekends, with my exception of my folks since my dad works nights and doesn’t have the weekends off. I usually pop in at unusual hours though, they’ve woken up numerous times to me just watching tv on their couch haha. Being that it’s 80miles away (an hour and a half drive usually), and that gas is like $4.50 a gallon now, I come here every other week or once a month now. In high summer when the temperature at home is easily over 105 or so I’m down here ALOT.

My whole point in all of this rambling is that it’s nice to have somewhere to go where you’re guaranteed to find family and just have a second home. Like my personal version of a family compound, without the crazy cult-ish feel. It’s like your favorite neighborhood bar where you’re always welcome, but with not as much drinking, people gotta drive home ya know? So I’m greatful for it, I love being here. It’s home.

Just an update…

July 1st, 2008

So after some research, I found out it was not my power supply it was indeed my motherboard that needed replacing, it’s gonna cost $300 for another one. I guess I was running my computer pretty hard, eek. Well either way, I ordered a new computer on friday while I try to decide whether or not to keep my gaming PC or to suck it up and pay for the new motherboard. Apparently it’s been happening alot lately to these damn things. I might just get a new gaming PC though, yay, depends on whether or not I get a job sooner or later. I made sure my new non gaming PC has a good enough video card and everything to play SL so I should be good for a lil bit longer. No more killing computers though, or I might break Nyte’s record for computer killed. HAHA!

Hellish Week

June 20th, 2008

So basically this week has been C.R.A.P. It started off on Sunday when I had to take my brother back to Berkeley,  we left at around 10:30 p.m and expected to be in Berkeley at a little after midnight. Yes, I drive really late, I’m used to it.  Oh yes, and I was planning on staying a couple of days in Berkeley to hang out with my family and I was bringing Jack with me, who is Jack? Jack is my delightful, orange tabby kitty who everyone adores. So we initially had Jack in the carrier and he was fine with it, and then…almost to the half way point of our trip traffic. Yes, traffic, at 11:30 p.m, there was traffic. Not there-a-bit-of-a-slowdown traffic but oh-my-god-those-people-are-walking-faster-than-we’re-moving traffic. Not that there were people on the freeway, just saying.  Luckily we used to live in the area and I knew a detour so we were planning on exiting and taking that route but then, things got a lil worse. Jack started crying, and at first I thought it was because he didn’t like the windows open in the car and all the noise, well soon, we realized what it was, smelled is more like it. Poor little Jack had an accident in this crate. So when we pulled over to take our detour, I also had to clean up my cat. So we ended up not even getting to Berkeley until almost 1:30 and my poor brother was so tired and he had work the next day. Then that night I couldn’t get my aunt’s computer to allow me to install Second Life so I never was able to log in until the next evening.

So I finally got home last night, my uncle dropped me off in my car so he could take my car for the rest of the week, well when we were in it he heard a noise. A bad noise. Like my bearings are going out, so now I’m not allowed to drive my car at night by myself for long distances. So after getting home all I wanted to do was go on the internet, hang out, catch up on some things I missed and just be blah. NOPE! Internet was not working. I spent all night fixing it and finally came to the conclusion that we need a new router. Ironically, I just gave away an extra router I had…hmm. Well, I had my computer connected to the internet and was finally able to log in for awhile and decided to catch some z’s. I woke up on Thursday night, and my computer was dead. The electricity had gone out while I was sleeping and now my computer turns on, stays on for 2 or 3 seconds and then DIES. I think it’s the power supply thing but we’ll see. My brother is coming home this weekend, with my uncle and so I think between the 3 of us we can fix it. It’s not an old computer either, I love it and the main reason I spent so much monies on it was so that it would last longer and I could just upgrade it when I was ready and not have to replace it for awhile. It’s Friday now, so I’m stuck on my laptop for another day, at least I had the laptop. So wish me luck! Maybe I’ll have my main comp fixed soon.

Bleh.

Plurk

June 8th, 2008

So I’ve been busy again in SL- and then last night Nex introduced me to Plurk and this thing is so great. I wish more people were on it. It’s like Twitter but you can keep up with people without refreshing. I’m SO out of touch with everyone on my twitter, I just never keep up with it. Like I watched a video from March that was a response to the ‘I’m bored Twitter’ I sent out lol. It’s bad but I’ve kept Plurk open this whole time and I dig it.

Shiny Things ‘Skyliners’

May 23rd, 2008

It’s been a fairly quiet evening for me, I had spent time with my friends, even granted one of them an interview of sorts which you might see here if I can clean it up some. But tonight was a happy night because when I logged in after being gone for a bit (sorta forgot I was online), I received the notice from Fallingwater Cellardoor about some new shoes she had. Squee!

Now if you know me, my main addictions in Second Life are skins and shoes. It’s no real contest, skins win hands now but my shoes inventory is insane as well. So I hurried over to Shiny Things to grab the new shoes and I could not resist buying them all. The lovely Fallingwater was there as well so I took a moment to say hello and tell her how much I loved her new shoes from first sight. She also told me that she does plan on making more designs with this particular shape shoe, and I can’t wait to see what else she come up with.

Upon further inspection when I got them home and tried them, the most amazing thing to see was the skyline details. In the bottom picture, actually in all the pictures you can clearly see the buildings have shadows. Just another reason to love Shiny Things shoes, even while using sculpted prims Fallingwater never forgets to add the details that truly make her shoes stand out above all the others.
